Some would say that entering China is like stepping back in time. Others would say it’s like stepping into the future. Whatever it is, it’s captivating, confusing, incredible and sometimes overwhelming. It’s a place of superlatives. You love it or hate it and you never forget it. China wasn’t on my list. I only went because it stood between me (Thailand) and Mongolia, and I’m so glad I did. The heartwarming and bizarre social interactions I experienced while visiting were key to my ever-changing understanding of the world.
